During a new conference this morning at the White House. The President said that he believes we are not headed for a recession. He acknowledges the slowing growth but, he went on to say that Congress should wait for the stimulus package that was just passed to take effect before they do anything else.
If everyone keeps running around continually saying we’re going to have a recession or that we’re already in one. We will force it upon ourselves. If you tell yourself something enough times you’ll start believing it and make it come true. Remember the media is in the business to sell news. Bad news sells.

Next month the 2008 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships are going to be down the street at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic center. From March 27-29 the Seattle Sports Commission and the University of Washington will host the event.
Since the Olympics will be held in August this meet is a very important lead in to the trials being held in Omaha, Neb in a few months.
The pool was originally built for the 1990 Goodwill Games. Since then it has seen more than 200 national and world records set. Anyone that has had the opportunity to watch a meet live will want to see this one. It will have some of the leading Olympic contenders participating. Normally we think of ourselves as just a little home town area. But in a few weeks we’ll be just down the road from a world class swimming event. This is your chance to see someone that could possibly be in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Three-day passes can be purchased from Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com/ncaaswimanddive08 or call 206-628-0888. Individual tickets will be available at a later date.

This odd Jungle gym looking piece of equipment is the newest addition at the Edgewood curves. It’s actually a place to finish your workout doing cool down stretching. It’s hard to tell with just a glance but there are 12 different stations to do a variety of stretches. It makes the stretching more effective and it’s faster do. And the part I like best is you don’t have to get down on the floor. For anyone wanting more info about Curves in Edgewood please check out their Blog at: edgewoodcurves.ablogaboutit.com

The work on the the new Edgewood Food Bank building it continuing. They have started work on the forms and re-bar for the foundation. I know it doesn’t look real exciting but everything needs to start with a good solid foundation.

I’m sure next months the photo’s will show walls going up. Remember that the food bank is still being operated out of the Mt View church buildings on Saturday mornings.

As I was reviewing the news items on MSN this morning this articles title caught my eye. New York to L.A. on three fill ups. Affordable diesel powered import to get 150 mpg I had to click in and see what it was all about. Loremo: The ‘ Low Resistance Mobile’ . It’s a cute little car. Two seats in the front and has two rear facing children seats. The idea to get better mileage is less weight and drag. The doors are very different than our standard cars. It has two, one in front and one in back. You’ll really need to look at the photos in the article to truly appreciate them. These cars are going into production for sale in Europe in 2009 and are slated to get to us in 2010. At this point they are quoting the price for us to be in the neighborhood of $22k. This is something I’m going to be checking up on as I’ll be due for a new car some time in 2011. Anyone wanting to read the entire article here’s the link “Loremo: The ‘Low Resistance Mobile’

The foundation walls of the center are now visible from Meridian as you drive by. I did however try to get right up on the site but the mud and standing water where too much for me. Even hiking over the straw that was spread over some spots didn’t help much. Next month should have a lot more to see. At least I hope so.

I’m sure that the title of this article will be upsetting to some living in this area. But come on people, everyone saw the writing on the wall when the sale of Sonics was finalized. How many of us really believed that investors from half way across the country spent millions of dollars to buy a team and not move it to their home town.
But remember it’s all our fault. We are the Bad ones. We aren’t willing to have our taxes raised to build them a new arena. One with all the deluxe accommodations. So they can raise the ticket prices they charge us. To watch a team lose. I’m having a problem making the connection between a new building and winning a game. I like to watch basketball players that care about the game.
I’m sure it’s noticeable to anyone that’s been to this blog more than once, I’m a Gonzaga basketball fan. It’s not only about them. The Pac 10 has 3 nationally ranked teams. Currently UCLA is #6, Stanford is #9, and our Washington State Cougars are #17. The WCC the conference that Gonzaga is in has #23 St. Mary’s.
Listening to the announcers during the Gonzaga win over San Diego last night. I came away fairly assured that even if the Zags don’t win the conference they’ll most likely go to the tournament. They are 21-6 overall. Four of the losses are to ranked teams. They have played #1 Memphis, #2 Tennessee, #17 Washington State and #23 Saint Mary’s.
There has been talk of the Pac 10 being able to send up to 5 or 6 teams. For anyone that really wants to watch pure from the heart basketball. I suggest you start tuning into some college ball.
OK, I’ll step down from my soap box now. But to finish up all I have to say is GO….Zags

Spyder Lake Winery & Wine Shop at 3307 Meridian Street East suite C

I finally took the time last week to stop by and check out the wine shop of Spyder Lake Wines. It’s been one of those things I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. You know how it is, you see the sign when your driving down the road and you think, “I’ve got to stop and check that place out…some day.”
Well I’m glad I did. I got to meet Connie she was very friendly and informative. I had no idea that they actually make some of the wines they sell on site. Currently the shop is very small but I’m sure it will be growing soon. As you can see in the photos it’s very cozy. It will seat about a half dozen people. I tasted a couple of the house wines and they are very nice. Coming from someone that doesn’t really like wine that says a lot.
Don’t think that the small area limits your choices. They have over 200 wines available. Special orders are no problems.
I’m looking forward to getting a tour of the winery arranged for a group of my friends. Supporting a home grown business that uses the farms in our home area is what being part of a small town is all about. I’ll be posting photos from the tour soon.
Spyder Lake Winery & Wine Shop is located at 3307 Meridian Street East Suite “C” in Edgewood, WA 98372 phone 253-445-8034. The website address is www.spyderlakewinery.com

I drove by the construction site of the Stone Ridge Senior Living complex today. All the work that has been done is just more earth moving. But I did manage to get a better shot of the mount view. I was parked on Milton Rd South looking south east. Some of these units will have beautiful views. Hopefully next month there will be more construction completed.

Three college basketball favorites in our state played today. And I’m proud to say that they each won their respective games. The Gonzaga Bulldogs beat The Dons of San Francisco, 83 to 63. The University of Washington Huskies won 97 to 59 over the Oregon State Beavers, and #21 Washington State Cougars beat the University of Oregon Ducks , 62 to 53.
Gonzaga currently is 20 - 6 overall, 9 - 1 in the West Coast Conference. They are first in the conference at this point. They have 4 more conference games, the next will be Monday evening at San Diego, it will be shown on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. I won’t say it’s a must win, but life would be easier if they won all of their remaining games.
Keep your fingers crossed it’s looking like we’ll have 2 teams going to the Big Dance.
