Cougar’s are done

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

I know it’s been a number of days since the Cougar’s lost their game.  It’s been difficult for me to put pen to paper so to speak.  Both of my favorite teams from this state are finished for the season.  Gonzaga went out much sooner than I had thought they would.  The Cougar’s played great for the first 16 minutes of their last game.  Then things started going side ways.  But, they made it much further than most of the experts predicted.  Next year should be better for both teams.

Cougar’s are still In

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

I’ve been out of town and far away from TV and computers for the past 4 days.  So I just found out about all the games that I missed.   My favorite, the Gonzaga Bulldogs went down in the first round.   It made me frown.   But, our Washington State Cougars are still in the hunt.  They will be playing again on Thursday against the #1 seed North Carolina.

I wish them luck……Go Cougs !!!

March Madness - First Rounds

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

We have two teams from this state in the NCAA Basketball Championship rounds.

The Washington State Cougars are a #4 seed in the East Regionals.  With the Pac 10 conference getting 6 teams in.  While the Gonzaga Bulldogs are a # 7 seed in the Midwest Regionals. This is the first time that Gonzaga has made it in as a #7 seed.  Another first for this year is the West Coast Conference has 3 teams in the tournament.

Both of our teams will be playing on Friday the 21st.  I know that everyone wishes them luck and wants to see them make it to the second round.

More March Madness

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

The past two days have been very exciting.  We have one team that is in by a win and one team that is sure to get an invitation.

The Washington State Cougars will play Stanford in the Pac 10 Semifinals tonight at 8:30 you can see it on FSN.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are waiting for an invitation to the Big Dance.   I do believe that the announcements will be made on Monday.  If you pay any attention to the announcers at the games Gonzaga will get in and even if the Cougars lose tonight they will still get in.

So we have a pair of teams from our state to be very proud of.   March Madness continues and we’re still in the thick of things.

True March Madness

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

Last night after watching Gonzaga play a sloppy game, lucky to come out with a win over Santa Clara at 52-48.  I thought, well the guys are just resting up and trying to conserve their energy for the Monday night Championship game.   They didn’t come out looking anymore rested than San Diego,  and they had played a double overtime game Sunday night.  I’m not sure what the problem was.  San Diego has lost 13 straight games to Gonzaga.  I guess hiring away Gonzaga’s Assistant coach Bill Grier to be their new Head coach was an excellent move. In the end San Diego won the game 69-62.  They now have the automatic spot in the NCAA tournament.

Gonzaga and St Mary’s will wait for what is called an At Large invitation to be announced.   According to the announcers at the game both the schools have enough scheduling points and wins to get them in.  This may be the first time that the West Coast Conference has ever had 3 teams at the Big Dance.

The other two big games this week are the Huskies on Wednesday night and the Cougars on Thursday night.  Both of the games will be at 6:00pm on FSN

Cougars over Huskies in double OT

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

If you didn’t watch this game yesterday you really missed a good one.  It was great game.  Well played to the very last second.  In regular time and both the overtimes.  The 23rd ranked  Washington State Cougars came out on top over the University of Washington Huskies.

The Cougars have a No.3 seed for the conference tournament.  They are tied with Southern California but earned the higher spot due to their season  sweep of the Trojans.

The Cougars will have their first game on Thursday against Oregon.  The #8 seeded Huskies will have their first game on Wednesday with California.

March Madness - Gonzaga wins West Coast Conference Title

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

Last night Gonzaga beat Santa Clara to take sole possession of the West Coast Conference title for the eighth year in a row.

Gonzaga is currently #22 in the national rankings. The guys played well last night. Every member of the team had minutes on the floor. And all but one scored points. This truly was a warm up for the up coming tournament games.

It looks like we’ll have two teams from our state going to The Big Dance later this month. Our Washington State Cougars are ranked #23. Hopefully they will return to their winning ways.

Milton Skate Park

Well, I’ve had these photos for a couple of weeks and since it’s been rainy the past few days I figured it was time to bring them out. Remember spring is coming. The kids will be out at all the parks reminding us of all the things we can no longer do. (without risk of strains and humiliation)

I stood and watched for about an hour and tried to get the timing down to catch someone in mid air. But I guess it’s time for a better camera and or lessons on how to take action photos.

Either way it was an experience watching some of the moves the kids can make. And that is make without crashing.

As the weather gets better please remember that kids don’t always watch where they are running. We have some fun parks in the area and the kids enjoy them please watch out for them.

NCAA Championships at Weyerhaeuser pool in Federal Way

Posted by Pam Novak 1 Comment »

Next month the 2008 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships are going to be down the street at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic center. From March 27-29 the Seattle Sports Commission and the University of Washington will host the event.

Since the Olympics will be held in August this meet is a very important lead in to the trials being held in Omaha, Neb in a few months.

The pool was originally built for the 1990 Goodwill Games. Since then it has seen more than 200 national and world records set. Anyone that has had the opportunity to watch a meet live will want to see this one. It will have some of the leading Olympic contenders participating. Normally we think of ourselves as just a little home town area. But in a few weeks we’ll be just down the road from a world class swimming event. This is your chance to see someone that could possibly be in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Three-day passes can be purchased from Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com/ncaaswimanddive08 or call 206-628-0888. Individual tickets will be available at a later date.

College basketball is great !!! Why worry about the Sonics ?

Posted by Pam Novak No Comments »

I’m sure that the title of this article will be upsetting to some living in this area.  But come on people, everyone saw the writing on the wall when the sale of Sonics was finalized.   How many of us really believed that investors from half way across the country spent millions of dollars to buy a team and not move it to their home town.

But remember it’s all our fault.  We are the Bad ones. We aren’t willing to have our taxes raised to build them a new arena.  One with all the deluxe accommodations.  So they can raise the ticket prices they charge us.   To watch a team lose.  I’m having a problem making the connection between a new building and winning a game.  I like to watch basketball players that care about the game.

I’m sure it’s noticeable to anyone that’s been to this blog more than once,  I’m a Gonzaga basketball fan.  It’s not only about them.  The Pac 10 has 3 nationally ranked teams.  Currently  UCLA is #6, Stanford is #9, and our Washington State Cougars are #17.  The WCC the conference that Gonzaga is in has #23 St. Mary’s.

Listening to the announcers during the Gonzaga win over San Diego last night.  I came away fairly assured that even if the Zags don’t win the conference they’ll most likely go to the tournament.  They are 21-6 overall.  Four of the losses are to ranked teams.  They have played #1 Memphis, #2 Tennessee, #17 Washington State and #23 Saint Mary’s.

There has been talk of the Pac 10 being able to send up to 5 or 6 teams.  For anyone that really wants to watch pure from the heart basketball.  I suggest you start tuning into some college ball.

OK, I’ll step down from my soap box now.   But to finish up all I have to say is  GO….Zags
