Spring is here and the wine is beginning to flow. A couple of weeks ago the winery bottled its batch of Peach wine for the season. I was lucky enough to know the day it was happening and got to taste it freshly bottled. It’s was delicious. I was allowed to go into the bottling room and take a couple of photos. You can see the huge vat that holds the wine and next to it the machine that fills the bottles.
In a couple of weeks I believe that the next batch is Apricot wine followed a few weeks later by Rhubarb. I can hardly wait. I hope to be allowed in while they are actually bottling. By that time I should have a camera that’s fast enough to catch them working. I’ve been told that they can get on a roll and do 200 bottles an hour.
Remember to support your local winery…stop by for a taste @ 3307 Meridian in Edgewood, WA or call and arrange a special group tasting 253-445-8034

As you can see the food bank is coming right along. These first two shots are of the main floor. The next shot is the back of the building. The lower or basement level. I’m so glad to see that everything is moving along. This building will be such a help to the community.

The spring fair runs today thru Sunday April 20th. All the normal fair items are happening. Rides, exhibits, animals and food. The tickets are $7-8 with discounts available online. Please go to the fair web site at www.thefair.com/spring-fair
The fair grounds are less than a 10 mile, 10 minute drive from the middle of Edgewood. This would be great fun for kids and a good way to show support to the youngsters that are exhibiting their animals.

As you can see the first building is moving right along. There is much more going on at the site but the ground is still mushy and photo’s from a distance wouldn’t show any detail. Next month the ground should be dried out and I’ll be able to safely get closer for some better shots.

This weekend the 75th Daffodil Parade will go through the cities of Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting. For anyone that hasn’t seen it you should go out for the day and watch. I’ll give you a couple of tips. It’s much more fun if you have a young child with you. Re-experiencing things you’ve grown accustomed to through the eyes of a child is a wonderful thing. The other very important thing to remember is when you have a small child you need to keep an eye out for Restrooms ;-)) when kids say they have to go they mean now, not in 10 minutes after they’ve walked 3 blocks.
Hope you have fun out there this weekend. Please check out the other festival items.

Yesterday morning, since I was babysitting for a friends almost 3 year old daughter. I decided to take her down to the Puyallup fair grounds and see the Alpaca show. It was the 10th annual Alpacapalooza. It is a free event, a mix of halter showing classes, craft exhibits and competitions. It is still running today till 2pm.
We had a great time and spent close to 3 hours walking around talking to owners and animals. Watched some fleece be spun into yarn while the girl doing it went to great lengths trying to explain it to a 3 year old. That left us wanting to watch the shearing demonstration. The photo at the end of this article is of the animal after his hair cut was completed.
We had the chance to see part of a class while the judge was reviewing the animals. It started with the animals lining up outside of the ring. They each came in one at a time and walked around the ring while the judge watched. After all the animals where in the ring the judge went around and seemed to look at each animals fleece. Although I can’t guarantee it. It’s difficult to really watch everything going on when your in charge of a 3 year old. I did managed to get a couple of good shots, the first is the line up just prior to the beginning of the class. The next was of the judge reviewing the animals.
Spending time this weekend trying to figure out how to entertain a young child gave me an idea. I’m going to make an active search for daytime trips/outings in the area. I’ll write about them. Giving you my impression along with costs, length of drive time (from a starting point of the Edgewood City hall) and any other info you would need to make it a pleasant experience. The Puyallup fair grounds are only a 10 minute 4 mile drive from the Edgewood City hall.
Anyone interested in finding out more about Alpacas there is a web site: http://www.alpacapalooza.com/
I hope to show people living in this area and anyone that maybe considering moving to this area all the entertainment options we have. Outside of the professional sporting events and major art exhibits.
Anyone with ideas please feel free to leave me a comment.

I know it’s been a number of days since the Cougar’s lost their game. It’s been difficult for me to put pen to paper so to speak. Both of my favorite teams from this state are finished for the season. Gonzaga went out much sooner than I had thought they would. The Cougar’s played great for the first 16 minutes of their last game. Then things started going side ways. But, they made it much further than most of the experts predicted. Next year should be better for both teams.

I’ve been out of town and far away from TV and computers for the past 4 days. So I just found out about all the games that I missed. My favorite, the Gonzaga Bulldogs went down in the first round. It made me frown. But, our Washington State Cougars are still in the hunt. They will be playing again on Thursday against the #1 seed North Carolina.
I wish them luck……Go Cougs !!!

We have two teams from this state in the NCAA Basketball Championship rounds.
The Washington State Cougars are a #4 seed in the East Regionals. With the Pac 10 conference getting 6 teams in. While the Gonzaga Bulldogs are a # 7 seed in the Midwest Regionals. This is the first time that Gonzaga has made it in as a #7 seed. Another first for this year is the West Coast Conference has 3 teams in the tournament.
Both of our teams will be playing on Friday the 21st. I know that everyone wishes them luck and wants to see them make it to the second round.
